We would be better off with electoral reform, and the populist wings would then leave, form their own parties, but be in plain sight

Nice piece and thanks. Don't understand estimate how begrudgingly the electoral system has handed Starmer his deserved majority. He is likely to be elected with one of the biggest parliamentary majorities in living memory but with the lowest personal approval rating of any new PM. This can only be a reflection of the growing frustration with main steam politics. The Tories weren't listening to this trend, let's see if Labour is. I fear they aren't either.

In practice Mr Starmer & Miss Reeves had to be cautious. In 1992 Labour lost in part due to a manifesto promise to raise HR income tax.

However, if now Labour is ruled by the latest monthly economic statistics it will fail. It must identify a limited number of changes, preferably with limited cost. The author mentions Planning rules which is such a case. Likewise improvements for the Police & Criminal Justice (read ‘The Secret Barrister’ for the devastation caused by cuts in funding in c. 2012).

Low expectations exceeded will do.

Great review/explanation of the situation in Briton. This analysis may also offer insight into other country's political discontent. Common issues in a global economy and a lot of focus on personal rather than Policy.
